Hi I'm thinking of buying the Maxi link ML629 code scanner but I've been reading a lot of reviews that say there are issues with downloading and installing autel  updates, can anyone advice me whether or not this remains an issue. Thank you.

Don't, it's far out of date and they are advertising it as the replacement for the 619.
It's a joke, most European models only supported to 2012.
I have a 2013 Vauxhall/Opel Zafira, on doing a scan it only covers a couple of Vauxhall/Opel models to 2012.
Look at most the posts on here by searching 'ML629' and see for yourself.
Save your money and go for the icarsoft, wish I had earlier

You can't connect it to MaxiSuite and you can't update anything. So unless it just happens to work for your car, you're SOL. Stay away from it! And Autel won't support it.

I received mine for Christmas and I regret it same issues as everyone else
I would go with a different brand unless you are a professional Mechanic but I would purchase a higher model
I am sending mine back and looking for a competitor brand keep in mind I am a DIYer
